Society6 Art Shop Closing
…and if I know Society6 like I think I do, some Black Friday deals…
Don’t worry, this is not sad.
Right now, I am clearing space in my life. Letting go of the good to make room for the great (whatever that is) and noticing where energy is flowing and where it’s not and trying to actually honor that, not grip or force or push.
What happened is that the other day I got an email from Society6 (the print on demand company where I have an online store) that they are changing their terms so instead of it always being free for artists to have an account, it will now cost a monthly fee.
This gave me the opportunity to reflect because I haven’t done much with my Society6 page really, and I don’t make much money from it. The monthly fee is low and would be nothing to me if I was earning a lot from the shop, but I’m not.
Artists make 10%. So on a $50 item, I make $5. This has been fine with me, because I just made the painting once and uploaded the image and they do the rest.
At one point, I wanted to learn how to make repeat patterns like for wallpaper or fabric, and then use my Society6 page to sell them on different things. I was sooo inspired by several artists I found on Society6. But two years or so have passed and I haven’t done this yet. I still would like to, but it clearly hasn’t been a priority. In fact, I have totally different artistic dreams and schemes in the cooker that have nothing to do with that.
So, that email from Society6 came at a perfect time for me to decide, is this something I want to pour my energy into and grow? Or something I want to let go of? The answer was clear:
The shop closes on November 30.
If you want to buy any of the 40+ products I have up there - tote bags, backpacks, cellphone cases, fanny packs, thermoses, notebooks, and more - from 6 of my paintings, you can do so until then:
I’m leaning into the spaciousness I’m creating by and by and I hope you can too, if that’s something you want.
Thank you for being on the journey with me.

Real Sun sq Saturn vibes here.
Dear Mollie, I love this post so much. It is so easy for the hustling artist to get caught up in the hustle and I hope that this encourages others to stop and think about how they're expending their energy to put their art into the world, and whether it actually benefits and furthers what their present goals are. I have had a similar conversation with myself that led to deleting my Etsy account awhile back. And I am thrilled to say that I recently "sold" my entire original set of yoga chakra paintings (remember those? So long ago) to the yoga studio owner here in exchange for a class apiece! For my purposes, it was much more satisfying to make this trade than to struggle with Etsy sales; I am glad I waited for the right opportunity to get the most out of the original art! Harvest blessings on your next endeavors!
